The Jaypee Group Circuit is located in Greater Noida, state Uttar Pradesh of India. The circuit is still under construction and due to host the first ever Indian Formula 1 Grand Prix in October 2011. The circuit is expected to be completed in May 2011 at an estimated cost of INR 10 billion (USD 215 million). The FIA has tentatively included the Indian Grand Prix to the 2011 F1 calendar, but the confirmation of the race will depend on whether the circuit will be finished and approved on time.

The circuit is designed by German architect Hermann Tilke and will have a length of 5,140 km. Tilke’s trademark of long straights ending in tight hairpins will appear on several parts of the circuit. The design was forwarded to the F1 teams to gather feedback on how the circuit could be altered to improve overtaking. This has resulted in some minor changes; the planned hairpin at Turn 7 will be removed and the track will be widened at Turn 3. The circuit will also rise fourteen meters within the first three corners to make it one of the most challenging circuits on the Formula 1 calendar.

The start straight will lead into the nearly 90° right angle Turn 1. After that, the drivers proceed onto a high-speed curve into the tight hairpin that leads onto the long straight which ends in a sharp right-hander. The drivers proceed onto a small straight and get caught up in the twisty west part of the circuit, which is filled with curves and turns. The drivers have to pass a fast turn onto a small straight which ends in a tight left-hander before the start straight. The circuit will probably be the second fastest on the F1 calendar after Monza.

The seating capacity is expected to be 150.000 with provisions to increase it later to 200.000. The circuit will be part of the Jaypee Greens Sports City, which is planned to include a 100.000 seat cricket stadium, 18-hole golf course, 25.000 seat hockey stadium and a sports academy. This project will probably employ 10.000 people.
